TYPO3 Roadmap 2026: Versions, Support End and ELTS

Summary: The TYPO3 Roadmap shows how long each version receives updates. As of 28 October 2026: TYPO3 v14.3 LTS was released on 21 April 2026, v13.4 LTS on 15 October 2024. Free support for v12.4 ended on 30 April 2026; after that, updates come only through the paid ELTS offer.

The TYPO3 Roadmap is the public schedule of the TYPO3 project. It shows when new versions are released and how long they receive updates. According to TYPO3, each LTS version (Long Term Support) is maintained free of charge for about three years. After that, site owners can book extended support (ELTS). If you know the roadmap, you plan upgrades before your version stops receiving security updates.

ELTS (Extended Long Term Support) is a paid offer from TYPO3 GmbH. It delivers security updates for an LTS version after free support ends. For TYPO3 v12.4, ELTS runs from 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2029. A fourth year until 30 April 2030 is available only to TYPO3 Partners. ELTS buys time for an upgrade but does not replace it. According to TYPO3, new projects start with the current LTS version v14.3 (get.typo3.org). For existing websites, the next step depends on your version:

Every TYPO3 version needs specific PHP and database versions. As of 28 October 2026, get.typo3.org lists PHP 8.2 to 8.5 and Composer 2.1 or newer for v13 and v14. The right versions ensure compatibility, security and performance.

Notes:

• LTS (Long-Term Support): Each LTS version receives official support for about three years from its release date. For ongoing care of your website we offer TYPO3 Support & Maintenance.
• ELTS (Extended Long-Term Support): After the LTS period, versions may enter an ELTS phase that offers security updates for another three years for any organization and up to four years for official TYPO3 Partners.

Every TYPO3 LTS version is maintained in phases, and the roadmap gives a date for each phase. Using TYPO3 v14.3 LTS as the example (TYPO3 press release):

• Bug fixes: until 31 December 2027
• Security updates: until 30 June 2029
• ELTS: afterwards as a paid offer, until 30 June 2032 according to get.typo3.org. Our glossary explains what TYPO3 ELTS means.

Release rhythm: a new LTS version about every 18 months

The release dates show the rhythm: TYPO3 v12.4 LTS was released on 25 April 2023, v13.4 LTS on 15 October 2024 and v14.3 LTS on 21 April 2026. That is about 18 months between two LTS versions. Read more about v13 in the article TYPO3 v13 LTS.

Patch releases: current versions

Besides the major versions, TYPO3 publishes patch releases continuously. As of 28 October 2026, get.typo3.org lists v14.3.10 and v13.4.37 as the current versions. For v14.3, the maintenance schedule on typo3.com plans releases from v14.3.1 (12 May 2026) to v14.3.24 (14 December 2027). If you run v13 or v14, apply patch releases promptly. When free support for your TYPO3 version ends, no official security updates are released for it any more. Known vulnerabilities stay open unless you have an ELTS contract. There is a second problem: an old TYPO3 version often does not support newer PHP and database versions. TYPO3 v12, for example, runs with PHP 8.1 to 8.4, while v13 and v14 run with PHP 8.2 to 8.5 (get.typo3.org).

You have three options:

1. Upgrade: The clean way. It ends the dependency on an expiring version. Our TYPO3 Upgrade Service guides the project from analysis to go-live.
2. ELTS as a bridge: You keep receiving security updates and gain time, for example while custom extensions are adapted. ELTS does not replace the upgrade.
3. Ongoing care: With TYPO3 Support and Maintenance you keep updates, security fixes and monitoring under control, also until the planned upgrade.

An upgrade follows fixed steps. The effort depends mainly on your extensions and custom code.

1. Check version and environment: Which version runs today? The free TYPO3 Version Checker shows it.
2. Match the requirements: According to get.typo3.org, TYPO3 v14 needs PHP 8.2 to 8.5, Composer 2.1 or newer and MySQL 8.0.17, MariaDB 10.4.3, PostgreSQL 10 or SQLite 3.8.3 (minimum versions).
3. Check extensions: Are all extensions available for v14? Custom and unmaintained extensions are the most common blocker.
4. Build staging and back up: Full backup of database and files, test on a copy of the website.
5. Run the upgrade and test: Update the core, run the upgrade wizards and the database comparison, test frontend and backend.
6. Go live: Clear caches, enable monitoring, schedule patch releases.

The right path per version
