CLI in TYPO3 – Glossary
TYPO3 CLI
TYPO3 CLI (Command Line Interface) is a tool that lets you manage your TYPO3 website using text commands. It’s super handy for tasks like clearing the cache or running updates. Instead of clicking through menus, you type commands in a terminal. It’s a quick and powerful way to handle your TYPO3 site, especially for tech users!
The TYPO3 command line allows many tasks to be done without a browser. Through the program “typo3” in the bin folder of your project you run commands, for example to clear caches, update the database, run the scheduler or manage extensions. This is faster, can be automated and also works on servers without a graphical interface.
The CLI is particularly useful in deployment processes. After uploading new code, a script can automatically clear the cache, adjust the database schema and check language settings. This makes releases run reproducibly and with fewer errors because no manual clicks are needed.
Custom commands can be developed with Symfony Console classes. Typical examples are imports from other systems, maintenance jobs or reports. You can run these commands regularly in the scheduler or via cron job and provide them with parameters and help texts if needed.
When working on live servers, pay attention to permissions: run commands as the user who also operates the web server so that files are not created with the wrong permissions. Test larger operations on a staging environment first and back up the database beforehand.
We set up CLI-based processes for your projects and, if needed, develop custom commands that noticeably make your work easier.
Create a small collection of documented commands for recurring tasks so that less experienced team members can use them safely too. This speeds up maintenance and reduces errors caused by unfamiliar steps.
In short: TYPO3 CLI for easy website management.
