Multilingual in TYPO3 – Glossary
TYPO3 Multilingual
With TYPO3, you can easily set up and manage different languages on your site. Just choose your languages, add your content, and TYPO3 handles the rest. Your visitors will see your site in their preferred language, making it more user-friendly and global!
Multilingualism is one of TYPO3’s strengths and a main reason for use in international companies. The system allows a website to be run in any number of languages without multiplying the structure. Content is translated in the same page tree and managed together.
Languages are created in the site configuration, with name, language code, flag and URL path. Translations can be created for every page and every element. Optionally they stay connected to the original so that editors quickly recognise changes, or they are maintained freely as independent content.
Visitors choose the desired language via a language switcher or are guided by the browser setting. Readable URLs with language paths and hreflang information ensure that search engines assign each version correctly. This way the suitable language appears in search results.
The backend is also multilingual. Editors work in their mother tongue, and permissions can be assigned per language. Translators receive access only to the languages they handle. Tools such as DeepL or localisation managers speed up the work.
Plan processes carefully. Decide which content is translated into which languages, who reviews it and how quickly changes are followed up. Outdated translations damage trust and rankings.
Pay attention to layouts: texts of different lengths must not break the design. Forms, error messages and emails must also be translated.
Check legal texts in every language and adapt contact options.
Evaluate visitors and enquiries per language to set priorities.
We realise multilingual TYPO3 websites with clear processes and clean technology.
This way you address your target groups in their language.
A language switcher should be clearly visible and lead to the corresponding page in the other language, not just to the home page.
In short: TYPO3 Multilingual - Easy to implement.
