The project at hand involved upgrading their official website and network forum from TYPO3 Upgrade v6 to v9. This upgrade was particularly challenging as there was no automated migration path available. Requirements & Challenges
The project had to balance delivering a functional website within a scope, budget, and deadline while also tackling complex technical hurdles. These included migrating massive amounts of data from various sources with necessary cleaning and transformation, upgrading an abandoned TYPO3 forum extension to the new TYPO3 version, and ensuring compatibility with 18 outdated TYPO3 extensions.

Our Approach - Prioritizing Smoother Migration & Upgrade Process
To address the project demands, our team built a responsive website theme that smoothly blends Aviso+ specific needs with the TYPO3 platform. We streamlined the data migration and TYPO3 upgrade process by implementing a CI/CD approach for continuous integration and delivery, combined with agile and lean product engineering practices. This involved creating a custom extension to further simplify the migration process.
Data Optimization
website's data was outdated and disorganized. To migrate it smoothly we focused phase focused on migrating the most critical data (DTE database) in a pilot project.This allowed us to identify and fix any issues before migrating the entire website.
Upgrade of TYPO3 Extensions
Aviso+ relied on several custom extensions built for their old TYPO3 version. These extensions, like "Aviso Multimedia" and "Aviso Calval," were essential for their website's functionality but wouldn't work with the new TYPO3 version. To bridge this gap, our team meticulously rebuilt nearly 18+ of these custom modules, ensuring compatibility with the upgraded TYPO3 v9.

TYPO3 Template Upgrade
The biggest challenge was rebuilding the website's theme to ensure the final TYPO3 version 6 site maintained a nearly identical look and feel to the old version. This required a detailed inventory of all customized page layouts. Our solution delivered a website with a modern foundation built on Fluid, a powerful theme system within TYPO3.

Customization of TYPO3 Forum Extension

We offered our extension customization approach to upgrade the TYPO3 Forum Extension to v9, enhancing functionality and workflow.
Easy User Permission Management
This upgrade ensured robust security with a complex role-based access control system. Researchers can now directly manage content through a dedicated login section. Aviso employees have a separate "Aviso" website for targeted content creation. Customized dashboards empower Super Administrators and Store Administrators with control over user roles, permissions, orders, and customers.
