ELTS in TYPO3 – Glossary
TYPO3 ELTS
TYPO3 ELTS stands for Extended Long Term Support. It's like extra help for TYPO3 websites, giving you more time with stable updates and security fixes. Instead of regular updates, ELTS ensures your website stays secure and smooth, with fewer changes. It's perfect for businesses that need more time to schedule their updates.
ELTS stands for Extended Long Term Support and refers to paid security support for TYPO3 versions that are no longer covered by regular support. Anyone who cannot update an older version immediately still receives security fixes and gains time for a planned migration.
The background: each TYPO3 version is officially maintained only for a limited period. After that no more updates appear, and newly discovered vulnerabilities remain unpatched. For websites with sensitive data or high reach this is a considerable risk.
ELTS closes this gap but does not replace an update. It is a transitional solution that buys you time to prepare extensions, templates and processes for a current version. Plan the migration in parallel and set a date by which the switch should be completed.
Check beforehand which version you use, when its support ends and what costs ELTS involves. Compare these with the effort of an upgrade. Often the combination of short-term ELTS and medium-term upgrade is the most economical solution.
We advise you on ELTS and, if desired, take over the migration of your TYPO3 installation to a supported version.
Also document which extensions run on the old version and whether security fixes are available for them as well. Not every extension continues to be maintained during the ELTS phase, and unmaintained components can pose risks despite core patches. A short audit before the decision shows where action is needed and helps prioritise the migration steps.
In short: TYPO3 ELTS: Extended Long-Term Support.
