LTS in TYPO3 – Glossary

TYPO3 LTS

TYPO3 LTS (Long-Term Support) is a version of TYPO3 that receives updates and support for an extended period. It’s ideal for stable, long-term projects where you need reliable, ongoing maintenance.

LTS stands for Long Term Support and designates TYPO3 versions that are supplied with bug fixes and security updates over a longer period. For companies this means planning security because they do not have to switch constantly to new major versions.

TYPO3 releases major versions at fixed intervals. Certain versions receive long-term support lasting several years. During this time security fixes and important bug fixes appear, but new features come only in newer versions. The schedule is public and easy to plan.

Those who use an LTS version should keep the end of support in view and plan an upgrade in time. After that no regular security updates appear and the website becomes vulnerable. As a transition there is paid extended support, which is however no substitute for an upgrade.

When choosing the version, a look at the compatibility of extensions and requirements for PHP is worthwhile. Newer LTS versions offer better performance, modern functions and a longer lifetime. A version that is too old brings risks and effort during later migrations.

Plan regular updates within the version to apply security fixes. Test changes first on a staging system and keep backups ready.

A roadmap for upgrades helps to plan budget and resources. Divide larger jumps into steps if many extensions are affected.

Document versions in use so that those responsible know at any time when action is needed.

Use notices from the security team to react quickly to critical reports.

We accompany updates and upgrades of your TYPO3 installation safely and predictably.

This keeps your website protected in the long term.

Note also that PHP versions have support periods too. Coordinate TYPO3 and PHP so that server and system stay protected at the same time.

In short: TYPO3 LTS - Advantages for long-term website stability.
