Content blocks in TYPO3 – Glossary
TYPO3 content blocks
With TYPO3, creating and organizing content on your website is very easy. Content blocks let you easily add sections like text, images, or videos. You can move these blocks around and change their order with just a few clicks. This means you can build and update your pages quickly without needing any special skills. TYPO3’s content blocks make website design simple and flexible!
Content blocks are reusable building blocks from which pages are assembled in TYPO3. Examples are text blocks, image galleries, teasers, accordions, quotes or contact cards. Editors add them by selection and fill them with their own content without changing layouts.
The concept ensures consistency. Each block has defined fields, a uniform appearance and a defined output. This keeps the website uniform even with many authors, and the design can be adjusted centrally by changing the block’s template.
Technically blocks can be implemented with Content Blocks, container extensions or custom content elements. Developers define fields, backend preview and frontend output in one place. Newer approaches bundle configuration, template and assets in one package.
When planning, you should not offer too many variants. A manageable library of well-thought-out blocks is easier to maintain and understandable for editors. Name blocks after their function and add short help texts.
Accessibility and performance belong in every block. Semantic structure, alternative texts and efficient images should be built in from the start so that they take effect everywhere.
Test blocks in various combinations and on several devices.
Document the library with examples so that teams know when which block fits.
Regularly check which blocks are actually used and remove superfluous ones.
We develop block libraries for your TYPO3 project that are flexible and yet uniform.
This way pages are created faster and more consistently.
Also collect feedback from editors in order to improve the building blocks continuously.
