Fluid in TYPO3 – Glossary
TYPO3 Fluid
TYPO3 Fluid is a tool used in TYPO3 websites to make designing and managing web pages easier. It helps you create templates that control how your site looks and works. With Fluid, you can organize content, add dynamic features, and customize your site without needing to dive into complex code. It's like a smart assistant for building and maintaining your website's design.
Fluid is the template engine of TYPO3. It separates presentation and logic: developers write HTML templates with simple tags and variables while controllers provide the data. This keeps the frontend clear, and designers can adapt templates without delving deep into PHP.
A Fluid template consists of layouts, templates and partials. Layouts define the basic structure, templates contain the output for an area, partials are reusable building blocks such as cards or teasers. With ViewHelpers, loops, conditions, formatting and links can be integrated easily.
Popular are ViewHelpers for images, which automatically generate suitable sizes and formats, as well as for translations and dates. Custom ViewHelpers extend the possibilities if standard functions are not enough. Output escaping protects against cross-site scripting.
For clean projects a clear folder structure and meaningful names are recommended. Avoid complex logic in the template and move it into controllers or ViewHelpers. This makes tests and later adjustments easier.
Accessibility also begins in the template: semantic elements, alternative texts and a logical heading structure should be considered from the start.
When switching to new TYPO3 versions, a look at deprecated ViewHelpers is worthwhile. Early adjustments prevent problems during the upgrade.
We develop Fluid templates that are fast, accessible and easy to maintain.
Use partials consistently for recurring elements so that changes only have to be made in one place. This saves time and ensures a uniform appearance across the whole website, even when several developers work on the project.
In short: Simplify TYPO3 website design with TYPO3 Fluid.
