Backup in TYPO3 – Glossary
TYPO3 Backup
Keeping a backup of your TYPO3 website is like having an insurance policy. It’s there to protect you if something goes wrong. Here’s why it’s important and how you can do it.
Why TYPO3 Back Up?
Accidents Happen: Sometimes, files get deleted by mistake or changes are made that break your site. A backup lets you go back to an earlier version.
Security: If your site gets hacked, a backup can restore it to a clean state.
TYPO3 updates: When you update TYPO3 or add new features, things can go wrong. With a backup, you can reverse any bad changes.
Backing up your TYPO3 website is a simple but crucial task. It keeps your site safe. Whether you do it manually or use an automated tool, make sure you back up regularly.
A backup secures the state of your website so that you are back online quickly after an error, attack or server failure. With TYPO3, three components belong to it: the database with pages and content, the fileadmin folder with images and documents, and the configuration including the project’s code. If one of them is missing, a restoration is incomplete.
Regular, automatic backups are important. For active websites daily backups are common, and several times a day if changes are frequent. Keep copies in a different place than the server, for example with a separate provider, and encrypt sensitive data. Decide how long older versions are kept.
Testing the restoration is just as crucial. A backup that cannot be restored is worthless. Check regularly on a test system whether the backup is complete and how long restoration takes.
Before every update or upgrade you should also create a fresh backup. We set up backup concepts for TYPO3 projects and review them at fixed intervals.
