DDEV is a tool that provides local development environments for TYPO3 with Docker. With a few commands, a complete environment of web server, PHP, database and further services is created that matches the later live environment. Developers no longer have to install anything by hand and can run several projects with different PHP versions in parallel.

A project is prepared with “ddev config” and started with “ddev start”. TYPO3 can then be installed via Composer, and the website is reachable at a local address with HTTPS. Tools such as Mailpit for catching emails, phpMyAdmin or Xdebug are already integrated or can be added by command.

DDEV is particularly valuable in a team: the configuration is part of the project and versioned along with it. New colleagues clone the repository, start DDEV and work in an identical environment. Errors that only occur on one machine become rare as a result.

Tests and upgrades also benefit. New TYPO3 versions or PHP updates can be tried in a fresh container without affecting the running project. Those who synchronise database dumps and files regularly work locally with realistic data.

We set up DDEV for your projects and help your team build an efficient and reproducible development environment.

Document the PHP and database versions used in the project description so that development and server match.

In short: Facilitate TYPO3 development with DDEV.
