Eschborn: Modern Website for a Historic City

Eschborn, a historic city near the picturesque **Taunus mountain ranges in Germany**, is a hub of economic and cultural vibrancy. Renowned for its strategic location near **Frankfurt**, the city is home to numerous corporations, making it a significant business destination. To better serve its residents, businesses, and visitors, Eschborn offers an extensive website built on **TYPO3 CMS**. The platform acts as a central point for accessing city services, administrative resources, local events, and essential information.
NITSAN & Pixelegg: Collaborating for Excellence in Web Development

The website relaunch required meticulous planning and smoother execution, made possible through strong collaboration with our Service partner [**Pixelegg GmbH**](https://www.pixelegg.de/). Pixelegg GmbH was vital in **managing client communication, providing strategic consulting**, and offering technical support to ensure the project stayed on track and aligned with the client’s vision. Meanwhile, **NITSAN** was responsible for the **TYPO3 upgrade**, website redesign, Development, and managing the **technical updates**. By combining expertise, both teams worked together smoothly to create a modern, functional, and easy-to-use website.
Problem/Challenges

The Eschborn City Administration faced several problems with its online TYPO3 website. The city's website was built on the older **TYPO3 version 8.7**, which made it outdated both technical and graphically. Although the website was functional, it struggled to meet modern requirements and the latest **accessibility standards** necessary to ensure inclusivity for all users. The administration required an upgrade of over 1,000+ web pages to the **latest TYPO3 version**, along with a seamless **content migration** process. Enhancing website **speed and performance** was also a critical priority to ensure a modern, efficient, and user-friendly platform.

Solution We Delivered

The journey began with NITSAN and the Eschborn City Administration working closely together. We shared a detailed **TYPO3 upgrade checklist** for the website and developed a step-by-step plan to ensure a smooth process.
Our first step was **redesigning** the city’s website completely from scratch, During the development, we added **10+ custom TYPO3 extensions** to boost the website’s functionality. We replaced outdated elements with new **20+ custom elements**. The result? A faster, more **accessible website** that works perfectly on all devices, including phones and tablets.
### **Massive Upgrade to TYPO3 v12**
The Previous site's TYPO3 site ran on a server with **PHP 5.6** and **TYPO3 v8** it required a technical upgrade to **TYPO3 v10** then after evolving the need of the website we implemented **TYPO3 v12 Upgrade** for the Eschborn City website. We completed the following upgrade changes :
- migrated over **1,000+ web pages**
- Upgrade from **TYPO3 v10 to TYPO3 v12**
### Modern Intranet Application
The city of Eschborn did not have an intranet system. Communication channels were lengthy and inefficient, By introducing the **intranet system**, we enabled better communication and collaboration among city departments, making their operations **50% more efficient** and effective.
### **WACG 2.0 Accessible Website for Eschborn Users**
This upgrade prioritizes inclusivity, making the **barrier-free platform** for everyone, including people with disabilities. ensuring it is fully usable for **100%** of users.
- Compliant with **WCAG2.0, BSFG**, and **BITV 2.0** standards
- Improve accessibility score from **60** to **100**.
- More **40%** faster navigation
### **Effective Data Presentation**
The website needed TYPO3 CMS pages to effectively display key information about City Hall, the Cultural Department, and Economic Data. we implemented the following solutions:
