Accessibility describes the state in which existing barriers - whether structural, digital or communicative - have been reduced as far as possible.

The aim is to make services and environments accessible to as broad a user group as possible, especially for people with disabilities, older people and people with temporary restrictions.

Examples of barrier-free design:

- Stepless entrances and elevators
- Websites that are easy to read and use
- Easy language and simple presentations
- Guidance systems for people with visual or mobility impairments

Accessibility does not necessarily mean complete accessibility, but rather a targeted reduction of obstacles. It represents an important intermediate step on the way to inclusive and universal design.
